Bug Catching Contest!!

this was pretty last minute =w= but I got it done and I'm happy with my story (which ended up being 905 words). I also tied in another story I'm doing about the buttwing prompt with Cyril and Remedee in it too, but I dunno when I'll finish that =w=. Anyway without further ado.

THE BEAST

"AAAHHH!!!" The shrill scream could be heard all throughout Wynsiph. Many wyngro paused to wonder about the source, coming up with various theories. One orange wyngling by the name of Cyril, for example, was positive it was The Buttwing and proceeded to run off into the forest in search of it, followed closely behind by his friend Remedee. However, none would have ever imagined the shriek to come from a young, sky blue wyngro by the name of Bryn. 

- Earlier that day -

“Hey guys guess what!?” A tall brown wyngro burst into one of the rooms at the Nook, startling the fluffy purple wyngling inside. “Hey Pan, what’s up?” Kayo’s head popped up from where it was buried in a picture book. Pan looked around the room before coming back to Kayo and lowering his voice to a whisper, “Is Bryn here?” Kayo shook her head confused, “he’s helping Alma out with carrying something, why?” Pan double checked just to be sure before exclaiming excitedly “There's a lot of bugs in the forest this time of year so there’s a bug hunt on in the forest! Pretty much everyone’s going out there to catch some, I was thinking you might be interested in coming with me.” It all made sense now, Kayo now understood perfectly why Pan had made sure Bryn wasn’t here. “Sure, it sounds like fun!” The two wyngro proceeded to walk out the door and attempted to sneak out of The Nook.

 Kayo and Pan let out a small sigh of relief upon reaching the exit without running into Bryn. They were just turning the corner when Kayo ran straight into the blue wyngling, knocking her over. "Ah! Sorry sis, you should really watch where you're going" Bryn looked on concerned as he helped her up, "Where are you two off to?" Pan nervously shuffled his feet and looked away, Kayo staring intently at him for help. Pan didn't know what to say, he knew that whatever he did he couldn't reveal the bug catching contest no matter what but the pressure of his sibling's gazes were getting to him. Pan finally broke the awkward silence between the 3, "W-We were just going for…ah…for a…A WALK!! Yup just a walk in the forest is all! HAHAHA!!" Kayo raised her clawed foot to her face, she now realised that Pan probably wasn't the best choice for this, he wasn't a very good liar. Bryn looked worriedly at Pan "riiight…anyway I've finished helping out so I'll join you then." Bryn then began to lead the way towards the forest, Kayo and Pan looked at each other and let out a sigh before following after him.

The siblings had ventured to a nice spot of the forest near the river. It was quiet and peaceful with no one else in sight, a perfect spot to relax in the afternoon. That is what the siblings were doing for about half an hour, just chilling on the water's edge and enjoying each other's company…that is until it happened.

All of a sudden out of nowhere, a horrific beast was upon the trio, it's beady eyes locked onto its prey, intent on dragging them all down to hell where it came from!!! Bryn immediately rushed to his sibling's aid as they cowered helplessly before the monster and proceeded to fight it off. While engaging the creature in mortal combat he realised that he couldn't defeat it, the only thing he could do was lure it away to save his siblings, it was a noble sacrifice he was willing to make so he ran off into the distance, ready to accept his fate…

- what really happened -

The siblings had ventured to a nice spot of the forest near the river. It was quiet and peaceful with no one else in sight, a perfect spot to relax in the afternoon. That is what the siblings were doing for about half an hour, just chilling on the water's edge and enjoying each other's company…that is until it happened.

The trio had all their legs dangling in the river when all of a sudden Bryn felt something grab onto his front leg. He looked down to see a Paddlepillar gripping tightly onto his leg. He stared at it in horror, internally screaming and frozen in place as this small bug crawled higher and higher up his leg. His internal screams quickly turned external and he leapt away from the river, shaking his leg furiously in a fruitless attempt to shake the Paddlepillar off. Kayo and Pan tried in vain to help him and calm him down, all they could do was call after him as he ran in circles. After a good 10 minutes of chaos Bryn fell into the river, he coughed and spluttered in the shallows finally rid of the horrid creature that had attached itself to him. The Paddlepillar on the other hand was more than happy to be back in the river, having endured a very traumatising experience that it did not wish to repeat.

Kayo and Pan spent the rest of the day trying to cheer Bryn up, failing in their attempts to get him out from sulking under a blanket in the corner of their room at The Nook. The Paddlepillar reflecting on its mistake of grabbing onto what it thought was a branch, making sure it was a stick the next time it saw one.
